James Corden’s 10 Best Carpool Karaoke Moments
James Corden was an unlikely choice to host CBS’ The Late Late Show. Better known in his native UK, the effervescent comedian took Broadway by storm in 2011 with the hit British import One Man, Two Guvnors, winning a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play. Though he played featured film roles in Into the Woods and Trolls, Corden hit the big time when CBS announced he would take over for Craig Ferguson in the late night slot.
Since it began in March 2015, “Carpool Karaoke” has become one of the most popular segments on Corden’s show, based on a similar sketch he had performed with George Michael for the British television charity special Red Nose Day 2011.
From the first episode with Mariah Carey, the viral videos have racked up millions of views within days on YouTube. Apple bought the rights in 2016 and premiered the first of its series this past August, featuring new stars every week. But nothing will match Corden’s infectious joy, his rapport with his guests, and his surprisingly amazing pipes, all of which combine to make these videos such a delight.

LIN-MANUEL MIRANDA & FRIENDS
In the lead-up to James hosting the 2016 Tony Awards, he picks up a quartet of Broadway babies—Lin-Manuel Miranda, Audra McDonald, Jessie Tyler Ferguson, and Jane Krakowski—in his drive through midtown Manhattan. James shows off his tongue-twisting Hamilton rap skills and the group belts their way through a quintet of show tunes. Can’t take your eyes—or ears—off of this…
“A few cherished little bells are ringing” when James and the Coldplay frontman “viva la vida” on a San Francisco road trip to get Chris to his halftime performance at Super Bowl 50 on time.
