How To Get Tickets To New York Fashion Week

Every September for eight days, the pretty people of New York get even prettier as fashion designers descend on New York to showcase their latest spring line. New York Fashion Week (NYFW) starts a juggernaut of fashion’s finest that continues in London, Milan, and Paris over the following three weeks.

For fashionistas, nabbing tickets to any of the numerous shows and events that week remains difficult, especially if you don’t work in the industry.

Not surprisingly, industry New York Fashion Week shows are reserved for buyers and press. But you do have a couple of options if you want to attend one. The first is contact the design houses directly. But unless you have an “in” with a particular designer, odds are slim you’ll be sitting front row for your favorite collection.

An easier option is registering with the NYFW producers. Registration generally opens up a few weeks before the events. The catch is that several thousand people apply, and only a small percentage are accepted. Even when you pay the application fee (usually around $80), it doesn’t guarantee approval. And even if your application is approved, it’s still not guaranteed you’ll be admitted. It just means you can now submit to the various designers for their consideration to actually attend shows.

Willing to work for free? The NYFW producers also accept applications for volunteers to work the shows.

Shows that are open to the public just mean you have to purchase tickets before they sell out. Check out the calendar with ticket links to the various public shows.

Still can’t snag tickets? You can catch all the glitz and glamour from the comfort of your own home—or mobile device. NYFW offers streaming capabilities on many shows. If you’re looking for a particular show, unfortunately most of them don’t list streaming capabilities until the day before. So keep checking the calendar to make sure you don’t miss your favorite designer.
