James Corden’s 10 Best Carpool Karaoke Moments

by

James Corden was an unlikely choice to host CBS’ The Late Late Show. Better known in his native UK, the effervescent comedian took Broadway by storm in 2011 with the hit British import One Man, Two Guvnors, winning a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play. Though he played featured film roles in Into the Woods and Trolls, Corden hit the big time when CBS announced he would take over for Craig Ferguson in the late night slot.

Since it began in March 2015, “Carpool Karaoke” has become one of the most popular segments on Corden’s show, based on a similar sketch he had performed with George Michael for the British television charity special Red Nose Day 2011

From the first episode with Mariah Carey, the viral videos have racked up millions of views within days on YouTube. Apple bought the rights in 2016 and premiered the first of its series this past August, featuring new stars every week. But nothing will match Corden’s infectious joy, his rapport with his guests, and his surprisingly amazing pipes, all of which combine to make these videos such a delight.

MADONNA

Hey, Mr. DJ… James vogues, Madonna twerks. With the original Material Girl in the shotgun seat, James finds a ray of light driving through the streets of New York.

ADELE

Hello from the other side… In one of the most popular entries in the Carpool Karaoke series, James goes rolling in the deep. Adele admits what happens when she gets drunk and revisits a memory that broke her heart. Tell us what you want, what you really, really want…

ELTON JOHN

James and Elton embrace the circle of life and get in touch with their inner Simba. Even with mane malfunctions, by the end of the ride they’re still standing…or in this case, sitting.

SIA

With his own two-tone wig in tow, James is truly “a beauteous thing.” And with Sia on board, the pair is practically swinging from the chandelier (if the car had one) in this egg-cellent episode.

MICHELLE OBAMA

James is signed, sealed, and delivered into the hands of the First Lady for a personal driving tour of the White House grounds. They channel their inner single ladies until Missy Elliott pops up in the back seat. Put your hands up high!

STEVIE WONDER

After a mix up with Stevie’s driver’s license, James is forced to drive. When this pair gets together, there are superstitious writings on the wall.

JENNIFER HUDSON

James may be late to work, but he’s still not going to interrupt his drive-through breakfast routine. There’s nothing quite like an Oscar-winning actress and James (channeling R. Kelly) “try to order me some breakfast, honey.” You’re gonna lo-o-o-o-ve this!

LIN-MANUEL MIRANDA & FRIENDS

In the lead-up to James hosting the 2016 Tony Awards, he picks up a quartet of Broadway babies—Lin-Manuel Miranda, Audra McDonald, Jessie Tyler Ferguson, and Jane Krakowski—in his drive through midtown Manhattan. James shows off his tongue-twisting Hamilton rap skills and the group belts their way through a quintet of show tunes. Can’t take your eyes—or ears—off of this…

CHRIS MARTIN

“A few cherished little bells are ringing” when James and the Coldplay frontman “viva la vida” on a San Francisco road trip to get Chris to his halftime performance at Super Bowl 50 on time. Mick Jagger impersonations, a stolen car, and pedaling a tandem bike up the Pacific Coast Highway… It’s all here in one of the sweetest—and funniest—Carpool Karaoke episodes. O-o-o-o-oh…

CHRISTMAS SPECIAL

Mariah Carey, James’s premiere guest on Carpool Karaoke, returns with a host of other celebs from the 2016 season to sing her classic “All I Want for Christmas” in the most joyous Carpool Karaoke episode.

Charitybuzz often features great auction packages with James Corden, including VIP tickets to tapings of The Late Late Show. Who knows…you could be one of the first to see a new Carpool Karaoke live in the studio.
